Interdisciplinary Social Science
Program of Study at USF Sarasota-Manatee

Students attending Manatee Community College should complete the Associate of Arts degree.

There are no State Mandated Common Course Prerequisites for the degree in Interdisciplinary Social Science.

The student should complete 42 approved hours of course work from the College of Arts and Sciences, with a minimum of 30 hours at the 3000 level or above.

Core Courses (total of 9 hours):

STA 2122     Social Science Statistics (may take STA 2023 -
                        Elementary Statistics at MCC)
ISS 3010      Introduction to Social Science
ISS 4935      Senior Seminar in Social Science (mw)

Two 12 hour cognates (20 areas of concentration). Total of 24 hours from the two areas listed below:

African Studies
Anthropology
Criminology
Economics
Environmental Science and Policy*
Gerontology**
Geography
History
Humanities**
International Studies

Speech/Language/Hearing Concentration**
American Sign Language Concentration**
Latin American Studies*
Public Administration**
Political Science*
Psychology

Three Cultural Diversity courses
One course in each of the following:

African Studies
International Studies
Women’s Studies

It is  suggested that the student work out a program of study at the onset of the Junior year, particularly before too many courses are completed in the College of Arts and Sciences.

No transfer courses with grades of “D” are acceptable for credit in ISS major

No student should assume that courses already completed in the College of Arts and Sciences will automatically count toward the ISS degree.

 NOTE: There will be other work outside the major to meet University requirements for the degree.

 * Cognates may require travel to another campus to complete.

 ** Not available at USF Sarasota/Manatee
