Students
attending Manatee Community College should complete the
Associate of Arts degree which will include:
State Mandated Common Course Prerequisites.
All students must
complete one course in each of the following cognate areas:

A student must complete both SOW 3203 (The American Social Welfare System) and SOW 3302 (Introduction to Social Work) prior to admission to the BSW
Program. A minimum grade of "B" is required in SOW 3203
and SOW 3302. It is preferable, though not required, to take these
two courses during the same semester to facilitate program admission.
All undergraduate social work majors must complete the following
courses, maintaining a 2.75 average in social work courses.

Field placement occurs in the final semester of study and includes
completion of an internship of 32 hours per week in a social service
agency for a total of 480 hours.
