Criminology
Program of Study at USF Sarasota-Manatee

Students attending Manatee Community College should complete the Associate of Arts degree.  

There are no State Mandated Common Course Prerequisites for the degree in Criminology.

All undergraduate Criminology majors must complete 36 semester hours and complete the following core courses:

Survey of the Criminal Justice System*

   

(may take CCJ 1020 at MCC)

CCJ 3610              Theories of Criminal Behavior*
CCJ 3701             Research Methods Criminal Justice I
CCJ 4934             Seminar in Criminology (Senior Level-Exit mw)

* Signifies Gateway Course which should be taken as a prerequisite to other course offerings in Criminology.

In addition to the core classes students must take 24 hours of electives course work:

Also: CCJ 4940 (Internship for Criminal Justice Majors) may be used as an elective 
CCJ 4900 & CCJ 4910 (6 hours may be used as an elective).  No more than 6 hours or any combination of the 2 will be accepted towards the minimum number of hours in the major.


USF requires Criminology majors to take 30 semester hours of Criminal Justice courses at USF.

Any student who receives a grade of “D” or lower in more than one USF CCJ course will be automatically barred from continuing as a Criminology major.

NOTE:  Not all Criminology courses are available on the Sarasota-Manatee campus.
