Planned Program of Study

  • The Planned Program of Study is a contract between the student and the University stating all courses and requirements for earning a Ma degree.
  • Students must meet with Lisa Mullen, graduate program specialist, early in the first semester of study to complete the planned program.
  • Failure to submit a planned program may result in registration holds and inability to complete key program requirements, such as the practicum, internship and comprehensive exam.
Program of Study
Total program = 33-36 credits. Students without undergraduate reading education preparation and/or certification other than elementary education will complete 36-57 credits.

All courses 3 credits unless noted. Degree and certification requirements are subject to change in accordance with State and University mandates.

Transition Point Projects (TPP)
There are five transition points throughout the Reading master's program. Transition Point 1 is admission to the program; the others are listed above in the program of study. Projects 2 - 4 must be submitted to Chalk and Wire. TPP#5 is passing all FTCEs and submitting graduation application.

Information about TPPs 2 - 4 is provided on the application and on each rubric - TPP#2 rubric; TPP#3 rubric; TPP#4 rubric.  Use the TPP Guidlines for tips on submission, etc.

Students must apply to take each Transition Point Project at the beginning of the semester they plan to submit it. The application is available online and the deadline is generally the Friday of the third week of classes. See deadlines for upcoming dates.

Students submit completed transition point projects to Lisa Mullen, graduate program advisor, SMC B329, by the deadline, which is generally the 10th week of the semester.

APA (American Psychological Association) Style
The editorial style that many of the social and behavioral sciences have adopted to present written material in the field and the preferred style for assignments and Transition Point Projects. It is strongly recommended that you purchase the latest edition of the Publication Manual to guide you in your writing. Online resources are available too.


FTCEs - Florida Teacher Certification Exams
The following exams must be passed prior to graduation.
~ Professional Education Test (PEd)
~ Reading K-12 subtest (SAE)
~ General Knowledge Test (GKT) - waived for professionally certified teachers
