How to Apply
Admission Requirements:
Students seeking admission to the M.A. in
Special Education must:
• Have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent
from a regionally accredited institution,
and
• Meet at least one of the following
criteria:
o Have earned a graduate degree from a regionally
accredited institution.
o Have earned a 3.0 (4.0 scale) or better GPA in
all upper division coursework of the
baccalaureate degree.
o Have a total verbal plus quantitative GRE score
of 1,000 or higher within the last
five
years with a 2.5 GPA in all upper
division coursework of the baccalaureate
degree.
o Complete 9 hours of specified graduate
coursework with a GPA of 3.0 or
higher under departmental
direction, and the endorsement of a special
education
faculty member.
Note: Applicants with undergraduate degree
outside of special education may have to interview with the program advisor and
will be required to successfully complete
or show such completion of the following prerequisites: EEX 4011:
Foundations of Special Education, EDF 4430:
Measurement for Teachers, and EEX 4221:
Assessment of Exceptional Students.

2. Applicants must submit the following
items to USF Sarasota-Manatee Graduate
Admissions Advisor:
• A copy of teaching certificate.
• Official transcript(s) of all
undergraduate degree coursework.
•
Letter of intent briefly outlining your
goals for the program.
•
Two (2) letters of recommendation from
persons who have seen you teach and/or
work
with children and youth.
• GRE scores, if needed.
Note: students may be
required to submit syllabi and objectives
for evaluation of pre- and co-requisite
courses.

*Missed the deadline?
Apply for non-degree study to get
started this semester. A maximum of 12
credits from non-degree study may be
