About the Program
The M.A. in Adult Education
is a non-thesis 36-credit-hour program
designed to develop knowledge and specific
competencies required to prepare trainers of
adults to function successfully in both
profit and non-profit organizations. The
course work is interdisciplinary, derived
from an analysis of theory and skills
recognized as essential in improving
employee work performance. The courses and
experiences provide for continuing
professional development of employed
individuals and for the preparation of those
intending to enter a professional role that
is concerned about adult learning and
development.
Graduates of this
program are prepared to work as trainers and
facilitators, program developers and
directors, and human resource developers in
career positions such as human resources,
career development, social service agencies,
healthcare, government, and business.
The Cohort
This program is designed as a cohort program
allowing students to take courses together
in a planned sequence. Cohorts facilitate
optimum learning and timely completion of
the program. Such structure also allows
students to form a strong network with
fellow students.
Program Completion
Complete the program in six semesters
taking 2 courses per semester while working
full-time.
Graduate Certificate Program Available
Graduate Certificate in Leadership in
Developing Human Resources
This
15-credit-hour graduate certificate
offers professionals the opportunity to
focus their studies on the human resource
development needs of individuals and groups
in a variety of employment settings.
Individuals with this specialization may
find employment opportunities in business
and industry, community colleges and higher
education, government, professional and
trade associations, public organizations,
and volunteer agencies. Some graduate
certificate courses may be transferable into
the M.A. in Adult Education.
