About the Program The B.S. in Social Science Education* program is designed to prepare students to meet Florida teacher certification requirements and to become highly competent secondary teachers. Graduates receive a B.S. in Social Science Education and are eligible for certification in Social Science Education (grades 6-12) from the State of Florida. The program strives to
prepare creative and resourceful social
science teachers for middle and high
schools. It effectively combines coursework
and extensive field experiences in secondary
school settings to enable students to
integrate theory with teaching practice.
USF Sarasota-Manatee's program offers
upper-division courses and the majority of
our students complete the freshman and
sophomore years of the program at local
community colleges. Students attending a
Florida public community college should
complete the Associate of Arts degree and
state-mandated program
prerequisites as part of the A.A.
coursework.
