University Academic Policies
Admissions
To accept the University's offer of
admission, a student must enroll (validation of admission) in at least one
course in the semester of admission. If a student cannot begin studies in
the semester of admission, the student should file a
deferment of admission form.
Continuous Enrollment (graduate students only)
Degree-seeking students must be continuously enrolled. Continuous enrollment
is defined as completing, with grades assigned, a minimum of 6 graduate
credits every three continuous semesters. Failure to continuously enroll
results in automatic drop from the program and change to non-degree seeking
status. Students dropped must apply for reinstatement and may be subject to
new admission criteria.

Enrollment during Semester of
Graduation (graduate students only)
Students must be enrolled for a minimum of two (2) graduate hours during the
semester of graduation.
Planned Program of Study (graduate students only)
A planned program is a student's contract with USF stating all courses and
requirements for graduation as well as a guide for course enrollment.
Students must meet with Lisa Mullen, graduate
program specialist, to complete a planned program early in the first
semester of enrollment (degree-seeking only). NOTE: Adult Education
majors meet with Dr. Kirkman to develop the planned program.
Changes to
Planned Program/Course Substitution
(graduate students only)
A
change of planned program/course substitution form must be filed when a
student makes a change to his/her approved plan of study. Students should
discuss potential changes with Lisa Mullen, graduate program specialist,
before registering.

Good Academic
Standing
Undergraduate Students:
The first time the academic record of an undergraduate or non-degree seeking
student falls below a cumulative 2.00 grade point average (GPA), counting
only USF grades, he/she will be placed on Academic Probation (AP). If the
cumulative GPA is not raised to 2.00 or higher at the end of the next term
of enrollment, the student will be placed on Final Academic Probation (FP).
A student on Final Academic Probation who fails to raise his/her cumulative
USF GPA to 2.00 or higher at the end of the next term of enrollment will be
Academically Dismissed (AD) from the university.
Graduate Students:
To be in good academic standing, graduate students
must maintain an overall minimum GPA of 3.0 (4.0 scale) in all courses taken
as a graduate student.
Academic
Probation - Any student not in good standing at the end of the
semester shall be placed on probation as of the following semester. The
college or program may also place students on probation for other reasons as
designated by the college or program. Notification of probation will
be made to the student in writing by the department, with a copy to the
College Dean. See the
Graduate Catalog for full probation details.
