Q: How many days a
week do I have to teach, and how long am I
required to be in the classroom for Final
Internship?
Final internship
is the full day, Monday through Friday, and
an intern is required to follow the same
schedule as his/her assigned teacher.
Q:
When do I apply for internships and
practicum?
Submit a Registration Permit for
Levels 1, 2, or 3 internship/practicum.
Register via OASIS for appropriate section
after permit is granted by your advisor by
the registration deadline (April 30, 2008
for fall 2008).
Submit a Final Internship
Application by January deadline for Fall
internships and the June deadline for Spring internships.
Application forms are available in November
for Fall internships and in April for the
following Spring Internships.

Q: Why do
I have to apply and register so far in advance for
internships?
The
processing of applications/permits
involves several USF offices, districts and
principals so it takes time to complete.
Q:
May I change my internship preferences?
County location? Grade Level?
You may request a change in your preferences
through the internship/practicum
registration deadline. Use the
Information Change
Form to request changes.
Q: How do I change my
name, address or phone number?
It is important to provide current
information to both the University and the
College of Education.
Links to University change forms are
provided on the COEDU Information Change
Form. Please make changes with both the
University and COEDU. For final interns, the
COEDU in Sarasota will provide change
information to the Tampa Internship Office
after submission of the
COEDU change form.
Q: When
do I find out where I have been placed?
Placement information is sent by Tampa (for
final interns) or
Sarasota (for levels 1 or 2)
approximately one month prior to the
beginning of internship.
Q:
Why didn't I get my preferred assignment?
USF and the school districts/principals make
every effort to provide placements that
match your requested preferences.
Sometimes, however, your preferences cannot
be matched for a number of reasons. We ask
that you keep an open mind about your
placement. Remember job openings in the
future will not always match your
preferences. A lot of teachers work at
schools farther away or at a grade-level
other than their preferences.

Q: In which counties may I choose to
intern?
Citrus,
Desoto, Hardee, Hernando,
Highlands, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco,
Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota (depending on
program area)
Q: What if I want to intern in a county
or state other than those listed?
Final
Interns must contact the internship office directly at
(813) 974-3440 or
email them. Level 1 or 2 should
contact
Judy Craig, 941-359-4448.
Q: What if I want to intern in a
non-public school?
The non-public school must meet
accreditation requirements and adhere to the
Sunshine State curriculum guidelines. The
teacher must be certified in the same field
as the intern's degree program. The teacher
must also have at least three years teaching
experience and have taken a clinical
training course. Contact the Internship
Office for further information (813)
974-3440 or
email us.
Q: May I intern at a school I have
attended or have family attending or
employed?
No, interns may not intern at a school where
they have attended or have family attending
or employed. This can create a conflict of
interest where the role of the intern may be
compromised.

Q: May I request placement at a
particular public school?
No, placements are made by the school
district. School districts have asked that
we not have the interns call and make
special requests.
Q: What if I have day care,
transportation or other concerns?
There is a special place for information
regarding extenuating circumstances on page
three of the application. School Districts
will honor that information, if at all
possible.
Q: What if I cannot begin my
internship or practicum as planned?
Please contact your advisor immediately.
Depending on the timeframe, you should also
contact your supervising faculty. A lot of
time and resources goes into making
placements and schools, teachers and
students are excitedly awaiting you, so it’s
important to provide ample notice if you
cannot participate. The University expects
that only medical or other extenuating
circumstances will preclude a student from
starting or completing final internship once
application has been made.

Q: Do I have to go to class while
interning?
Yes, you will attend Seminar on Wednesdays,
3:30 – 5:20 p.m. You may also have other
coursework to complete during your final
internship semester.
Q: Do I get paid?
No.
Q: Do I have to register for internship?
Yes, even though you submitted either a
Registration Permit of a Final
Internship Application, you must still
register in order to earn credit for the
course. Register by
Wednesday, April 30 (fall 2008) on
OASIS for the permitted

input the registration permit to allow
registration.

Q: What testing is due and when?
Passing scores on the General Knowledge Test
are due one semester before you begin final internship.
Passing scores on the Professional Education
Test and your major-appropriate Subject Area
Exam are due several weeks prior to
graduation. Please submit copies of your
score reports to your advisor.
Q: How do I get my teaching certificate?
The student is responsible for applying to
Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) for his/her
teaching certificate. See
http://www.fldoe.org/edcert/ for
application and directions.
You will need to supply a sealed, official
transcript to FLDOE to complete your
application. Order your transcript from the
Registrar’s Office AFTER your degree
and final grades have been posted. If you
send transcripts to FLDOE without these
items, your certification will not be
granted.
REMEMBER -
to apply for ESOL Endorsement too.
