| History: |
The University of South Florida was founded in 1956 in Tampa and established limited course offerings
in 1974 at two public high schools in the Sarasota-Manatee area to serve
those residents, with particular attention to community college graduates and school teachers. In 1975 USF
and New College, a residential liberal arts program, began sharing
the current campus location, continuing the residential college and bringing to the campus expanded upper-level
(junior and senior) baccalaureate and
master's degree programs. Today, USF Sarasota -Manatee
is one of three regional USF campuses. (Others are in St. Petersburg
and Lakeland.) |
