ENDOWMENT MINIMUMS

Endowed Funds exist in perpetuity and create a legacy for the donor that lasts from one generation to the next.  The legacy you create is a living testament that demonstrates your commitment to education.  This commitment also enables you to memorialize loved ones and respected friends or colleagues, by naming the endowment in their honor.  Support from an endowment can be directed towards a particular discipline or to students who demonstrate characteristics or talents that resonate with your principles and standards.

At the University of South Florida, named, endowed scholarships require a minimum $25,000 investment by the close of the first fiscal year that the fund is established.  Endowments can also be established through a bequest or trust remainder at the time of death and can originate from a single source or through the efforts and support of many different people.

Since your endowed fund is designed to last in perpetuity, the principle in the account is never used and only a portion of the earnings is awarded as scholarships. The balance of the earnings is reinvested into the principle in order to maintain the original level of support that you envisioned.  The University of South Florida, through the USF Foundation, utilizes an investment philosophy that accomplishes the University’s goals and your goals as a donor.  The investment philosophy considers all asset classes; reduces risk through diversification; and selects the portfolio with the highest return within acceptable risk levels.

To establish fully funded endowments for specific purposes,  total contributions and/or pledges must reach minimum levels as outlined below:

Endowed Chair: $4,000,000
