USF Sarasota-Manatee hosts International panel discussion

 

SARASOTA, FL (March 6, 2008) – On March 28 at 3:00 p.m. USF Sarasota-Manatee’s International Studies Association (ISA) is hosting a panel discussion entitled “Foreign Service and International Communication.”

 

The panel is comprised of experts in international aspects of politics, culture, academics and business.  Panelists for the discussion include:

 

·        Dorothy Watson served 23 years with the US Department of State in the Diplomatic Corp as a Senior Foreign Service Officer and the US Mission to the UN, Rome, Italy, Valletta, Malta, Abidjan Cote D’lvoire, Montevideo Uruguay, and Lisbon, Portugal.

 

·        Allen J. Carlson is President and CEO of Sun Hydraulics, Inc., Sarasota, Florida. His international experiences include responsibilities for $150M operations in the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Korea, and China.

 

·        Peter French researched Kenyan and African politics for over 20 years. He was appointed by the President of Kenya to work for academic development in that country’s top university. His work with University of Pisa, Italy led to the Galileo Medal which is the highest award the University may bestow without a special act of the Italian National Assembly.

 

·        Judy Buffa worked 30 years at the Department of Defense Education Activity (DODEA). She was in charge of the education of children whose parents were stationed abroad. Dr. Buffa started her overseas career in Germany and later transferred to Okinawa, Japan. She spent most of her time there and in Tokyo, as well as traveling extensively in the Far East.

 

The ISA’s mission is to utilize community resources to strengthen the globalization of curriculum on the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus in order to better serve the needs of students.
