USF
Sarasota-Manatee Celebrates 30th Anniversary with 'Concert on the Bay' starring
Three Dog Night
October 30th Music Fest Launches USF Week activities SARASOTA --The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee will launch its annual USF Week and celebrate its 30th anniversary with a Concert on the Bay featuring the group that is synonymous with the word “Celebrate,” Three Dog Night, on October 30.
The USF Week schedule announced today features the hottest band from the '70s - the same time USF Sarasota-Manatee was established in 1974-75 at its current location on U.S. 41 North across from the airport.
“What better way to celebrate than with a band that made the song 'Celebrate' famous,” said Dr. Laurey Stryker, Campus CEO. “We are celebrating 30 years of service to this area and invite everyone to visit our beautiful campus.”
The Nelsons will join Three Dog Night along with local bands for the 3-10 p.m. music fest.
USF Week is October 30 to November 7, starting with the concert, behind College Hall along beautiful Sarasota Bay. The week includes a Game Watch party for the nationally-televised game between USF and the University of Alabama Birmingham Nov. 3; a speaking engagement featuring National Public Radio diplomatic correspondent Victoria (Vicky) O'Hara on Nov. 4; and a golf tournament at Rosedale Golf and Country Club Nov. 5. It wraps up Nov. 7 with the 11th Annual Brunch on the Bay, which attracts 900 people and nets over $150,000 for an endowed USF scholarship fund to support local scholars.“Brunch on the Bay is a celebration of leadership,” Stryker said. “Our graduates have made a huge impact on our community over the years and have left a legacy of scholarship.” The afternoon concert schedule on October 30 features the Sarasota-based Stone Soup; Port Charlotte's Shades of gray; and Atlanta’s Five Star Iris. As the sun sets over Sarasota Bay, members of America’s “First Family” of entertainment - The Nelsons - twins Matthew & Gunnar Nelson will play. The Nelsons’ acoustic set will feature nearly a half-century of #1 hit songs. The Nelsons energetic set features their Hall-of-Fame father Rick Nelson’s hits Travelin’ Man; Lonesome Town; I’m Walkin’; and Fools Rush In to the Nelson brothers’ own smash hits (Can’t Live Without Your) Love & Affection; After The Rain; More Than Ever; and Only Time Will Tell. Making their first-ever Sarasota appearance is the legendary Three Dog Night. From 1969-1974, nobody had more Top 10 hits, sold more records, or sold more concert tickets. During this period Three Dog Night was undoubtedly the most popular band in America with 21 consecutive Top 40 hits and 12 straight gold LPs. By late '75, they had sold nearly 50 million records. Classic hits like Joy To The World; Easy To Be Hard; Old Fashion Love Song; Mama Told Me (Not To Come); Shambala; Never Been To Spain; One; Celebrate and many more will be performed.Tickets for Concert on the Bay are on sale now and priced at $48 for ‘Gold Circle’ reserved seats; lawn seats are $25 in advance, $30 day of show; Cabaret Tables are available for $125 each and seat 4 per table.
