Sarasota IT expert Alex Parnes speaks at USF Sarasota-Manatee
Alex Parnes, Chief Technology Officer for MadahCom, speaks at an Information Technology lecture hosted by USF Sarasota-Manatee on April 20. SARASOTA, FL (April 21, 2006) – On Thursday, April 20 at 6 p.m., Alex Parnes, Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Engineering of award-winning Sarasota-based manufacturer MadahCom, Inc., spoke at an Information Technology lecture hosted by USF Sarasota-Manatee. The free event was held in the Jane Bancroft Cook Library, Room 209 on the university campus, and was open to all faculty, staff and students. During the lecture, Parnes discussed life-saving technology innovations in mass notification and public warning systems, as well as the continued growth of MadahCom. “Guiding people to safety and away from trouble during a disaster can save lives, and in today’s world, the need has become greater for public warning systems,” Parnes said. MadahCom’s WAVES Personnel Alerting System is ideal for homeland security, terrorist attacks, industrial and natural disasters, emergency notification and community alerting. The technology can be found at the Statue of Liberty, the Smithsonian Institute, amusement parks, zoos and many other companies such as Boeing. MadahCom has grown from eight to over 70 employees since 2002 and expects to hire approximately 30 more employees in the next nine months. “We at MadahCom really want to support the local community and be a good corporate citizen, “Parnes said. “We also want to find qualified personnel to come contribute not only to MadahCom, but to the entire community.” The Information Technology program at USF Sarasota-Manatee has a goal of providing high-quality educational opportunities for students interested in pursuing careers in the broad range of fields that support a computer-oriented society and an information-based economy. “Our focus is to join forces and explore synergetic ways in which we can cooperate, collaborate and communicate with local employers,” said Dr. Sunita Lodwig, an Information Technology Faculty Member at USF Sarasota-Manatee. The IT Colloquium was broadcast via video conference to the USF Lakeland campus. For students, staff and faculty who could not attend, the event was also videotaped and will be re-broadcast on the Web. For more information about the IT Colloquium, contact Lodwig at (941)359-4669 or visit www.sarasota.usf.edu.
