USF Sarasota-Manatee Academy for Lifelong Learning Speaker Series to be held on Anna Maria Island

 

SARASOTA, FL (January 4, 2008) – The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee’s Academy for Lifelong Learning will present a Speaker Series in 2008 on Anna Maria Island.

 

The Series, which was largely coordinated by Anna Maria resident Tom Tolette, will be hosted by the Anna Maria Island Community Center and The Studio at Gulf and Pine on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00.  Refreshments will be served at 10:00 a.m.

 

The schedule for the series is as follows:

 

Jan. 30

The Settlement of Southern Tampa Bay, Anna Maria and Cortez

Speaker – Jeffery T. Moates, Curator, Florida Maritime Museum at Cortez

Location – The Studio at Gulf and Pine

 

Feb. 13

The 2008 Election

Speaker – Dan Miller, Former U.S. Congressman House of Representatives and Professor

Location – Anna Maria Community Center

 

Feb. 27

The Time Machine

Speaker – Joe Kerata, Princeton University Woodrow Wilson Fellow in Bioethics

Location – The Studio at Gulf and Pine

 

March 12

Human Consciousness – Alzheimer’s disease and Stroke

Speaker – Alan Grindal, M.D. and former Assistant Professor of Neurology

Location – Anna Maria Community Center

 

March 26

The Art of the Caves

Speaker – Goody Hirshfeld, Author and Founding Member of Living Art Seminars

Location – Anna Maria Community Center

 

The mission of the Academy for Lifelong Learning is to enrich the lives of mature adults in Sarasota and Manatee Counties by providing affordable, outstanding educational programs covering a broad spectrum of topics.
