A “BULL” CALL TO YOUNG USF ALUMNI (SARASOTA, FL, December 1, 2004) - The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee is proud to announce the formation of a new young alumni group. The Young Bulls’ Association (YBA), a division of the Manatee-Sarasota Chapter Alumni Association, was formed to engage young alumni in the area. “Young” alum includes all graduates of USF (regardless of prior campus affiliation) who are age 35 and younger. The mission of the YBA is to get young alumni connected with other each other, get them involved with USF, and provide networking opportunities. The YBA was initiated through the efforts of Krystie McMurry, a recent USF graduate, who researched having a young alumni organization on the Sarasota-Manatee campus as part of an internship at USF her final semester. The YBA had their first committee meeting on Monday, September 27, 2004 and is actively recruiting new members. The committee is chaired by Amy Gruen, who graduated from USF in August, 2003 with a B.S. degree in Finance. Amy is actively using her degree as the loan portfolio manager in the commercial lending department at The Bank of Commerce in downtown Sarasota. Also serving on the committee is Brian McAllister with RTI Insurance; Derek Williams with Moseley Investment Management, Inc.; Glory Hernandez, Counselor/Advisor at the University of South Florida; Helena Williams with Manatee Palms Youth Services; Krystie McMurry, Lu Ottl with Northwestern Mutual Financial Network and Ross Vaughan Allen with VA Media. The group’s long-term goals include raising funds to provide scholarships. The group will seek to present a Distinguished “Young” Alumni Award at the existing USF Distinguished Alumni Award Ceremony held in November every other year. The YBA will hold their official “Kick-off” social on Friday, January 21, 2004 at 5:30 p.m. at College Hall on the University campus. There is no cost to YBA members for this event. If you are interested in learning more about this exciting new group, please contact Amy Gruen at (941) 536-2067 or by e-mail at agruen@bankofcommercefl.com GO BULLS!
