Community leaders form
new USF advisory group
Several
alumni are members; Liz Lindsay is the chairperson
(Sarasota,
FL, June 5, 2002) –
The
USF Sarasota/Manatee campus is getting lots of help from its key customers
to steer the future of its services.
Retooled from previous years, the campus’s Community Leadership
Council (CLC) is comprised of 40 leaders from the Sarasota/Manatee County
area who represent at least 15 different industries and sectors, and more
than 25,000 employees.
Liz Lindsay, USF alumna, former chairman of the Florida
Board of Regents, longtime volunteer, philanthropist, and recent USF
honorary degree recipient is chairing the group.
The
Community Leadership Council’s charge is to advise the USF
Sarasota/Manatee Campus Board and management about program and service
priorities, and advocate and present information on campus priorities to
the community and elected officials.
Three committees have been formed to organize the CLC’s work:
Community Affairs, Program, and Public Advocacy.
Amy Drake, Vice President of Operations for the Resort at
Longboat Key Club and a USF alumna chairs the Community Affairs Committee;
Chris Gargano, Vice President of Manufacturing at Tropicana, is
chairman of the Program Committee; and, Roger Frazee, a financial
planner, USF graduate and president of the Manatee/Sarasota Chapter of the
USF Alumni Association, chairs the Public Advocacy Committee.
A
complete list of CLC members follows this release.
The council meets quarterly and its committees meet more often than
that if needed.
For more information on the council’s work, please contact Alexis
Upham, Campus Advancement Director, at (941) 359-4582, or via email at aupham@sar.usf.edu.
The
University of South Florida Sarasota/Manatee Campus offers 25 degree
programs for students to complete at the undergraduate and graduate
levels. Currently serving
2,300 students annually, the campus is located at the Sarasota/Manatee
County line on 140 acres, touching the shoreline of Sarasota Bay and
adjacent to the Sarasota/Bradenton International Airport.
It is part of the University of South Florida, the second largest
university in Florida with more than 37,000 students, a Research I
institution, and one of the top 20 largest universities in the United
States.
