Former community leader Clyde G. Nixon commemorated at USF Sarasota-Manatee

SARASOTA, FL (February 1, 2008) – On Monday, Feb. 11, the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee will celebrate Clyde Nixon’s contributions to the University and the community with the dedication of the Clyde G. Nixon Courtyard.

Before he passed away in 2007, Nixon was the chairman of Sun Hydraulics Corporation, a member of the USF Sarasota-Manatee Campus Board, and chairman of the Community Leadership Council at USF Sarasota-Manatee, helping to raise $7.5 million for the university’s new campus.

The event will be held on the university’s local campus from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will feature Vice President and Campus CEO Dr. Arthur Guilford, The Campus Board, and the Community Leadership Council.  Members of Nixon’s family, including wife Joan Nixon, will also attend the celebration.

Nixon’s innovative approach to global and regional business development inspired USF Sarasota-Manatee to establish the Clyde G. Nixon International Business Endowment at the university.  The endowment will provide scholarships to students and graduate research assistants in their International Business Studies at USF Sarasota-Manatee.

“Clyde understood the effect of an educated community on our quality of workforce, companies, and society,” said Guilford.  “He understood the importance of global reach and didn’t see boundaries.  It is our hope that Clyde’s values for life and learning will reflect in future generations of student scholars who have accessed higher education by financial support of the Clyde G. Nixon International Business Endowment.  The dedication of our courtyard in his honor represents the work and commitment he showed to the community and the University and the legacy he has left behind.”
