USF Sarasota-Manatee recognizes outstanding employees at last staff event before moving to new campus

SARASOTA, FL (July 7, 2006) – On June 28 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., USF Sarasota-Manatee employees gathered at College Hall to celebrate the achievements of selected faculty and staff.  The event was the last employee event held before the move to the new campus, which is slated to open at the end of August.

After employees enjoyed a chocolate fountain, cheese display, and cocktails along the bay, Campus CEO Dr. Laurey Stryker presented gifts to outstanding employees for service to USF and the community, as well as honoring faculty for their achievements in the past year.  The Transition Team, a group of employees formed to help facilitate the move to the new campus, received T-shirts saying “Keep USF Moving” for their efforts.

The “2005 Outstanding Employee of the Year” award was presented to Business Manager Michelle Krueger for excellence in workmanship.  Other nominees were Elyse Malloy, program assistant; Micah Jordan, senior financial aid officer; Susan Freeman, director of Student Services at USF Sarasota-Manatee at MCC Venice; and Joan Wright, office manager for Academic Affairs.

“I feel honored,” Krueger said.  “All of the nominees are excellent at what they do and I’m proud to be listed among them.”

The event ended with the song “The Last Dance,” marking the last USF Sarasota-Manatee gathering at the current campus.

“It’s incredible the amount of team effort that has been put together to make our move possible,” Stryker said.  “Our faculty and staff work hard to make our college and community a better place, and with the expansion of our campus, we will be able to increase and expand our position as a valuable asset to surrounding communities.”

The new USF Sarasota-Manatee campus will be a three-story, 108,000-square-foot facility with 24 classrooms. It also includes a 190-seat lecture/exhibition hall, seminar and video-conferencing rooms, computer labs, a childcare center, student gathering places, faculty and staff offices, a technology and learning center, dining facilities, and training facilities for the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management.

The new campus is located on US 41 across from the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, just north of USF Sarasota-Manatee’s current campus location – which has been shared with New College of Florida for 31 years. The enrollment deadline for fall 2006 is July 31, and classes will start at the new campus on August 28.
