State Political Science group meets in Sarasota to
discuss terrorism, politics
USF's Dr. Susan MacManus will also be honored
(Sarasota,
FL, February 21, 2002) -- The Florida Political Science Association (FPSA)
will conduct its annual meeting at the Harry Sudakoff Center on the
USF/New College campus on Friday, March 8, 2002.
The public is invited to attend; the $10 registration fee is
payable at the door (fee does not cover meals).
Panel discussions begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 5:30 p.m.
Registration begins at 8:15 a.m.
Topics scheduled for panel and roundtable discussions include the War
on Terrorism to Religion and Politics, our recent
controversial Presidential Elections to the hot issues in Florida
Politics.
The
War on Terrorism panel discussion will begin immediately after
lunch at approximately 1:00 p.m. USF’s
Dr. Robert V. Barylski will chair that discussion.
He will be joined by two representatives from the United States
Central Command and faculty from several Florida colleges and
universities.
The
FPSA dinner will honor USF's Dr. Susan MacManus.
She will receive the association’s prestigious Manning
Dauer Award for outstanding contributions to the study of politics. Dr.
MacManus is a prominent author and commentator on Florida and American
politics. She will also
present a lively panel discussion on Florida Politics at 10:45 a.m.
The
University of South Florida Sarasota/Manatee regional campus offers 25
degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, now serving
2,300 students annually. It
is located at the Sarasota/Manatee County line on 140 acres, touching the
shoreline of Sarasota Bay and adjacent to the Sarasota/Bradenton
International Airport. The
regional campus is part of the University of South Florida, the second
largest university in Florida with more than 37,000 students, a Research I
institution, and one of the top 20 largest universities in the United
States.
