USF Sarasota-Manatee professor to discuss politics in Russia

 

SARASOTA, FL (February 28, 2008) – On March 11, University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee Associate Professor Dr. Robert Barylski will give a lecture entitled “Russian Political Change:  Who Controls Russia Today?  Where is this Richer, More Powerful Russia Heading?”

 

The event will be held at 3:45 p.m. in the Selby Auditorium on the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus.  It will be sponsored by the college’s Academy for Lifelong Learning and is presented by the Jim Bausch National Issues Forum.

 

Barylski earned his undergraduate degree form Brown University in political science in 1965 and his graduate degrees in Russian area studies and political science at Harvard University in 1972.

He is an expert on civil-military relations in Russia, political and economic reconstruction in the former Soviet Union, and Russian policy towards states and peoples of Islamic heritage.

 

Barylski joined USF in February 1979 and served as USF's Sarasota Campus Dean for ten years.  Since 1980, he has been Associate Professor in USF's Department of Government and International Relations. He has lectured in Baku, Madrid, Moscow, Paris, Ufa, Israel, and the Persian Gulf on military aspects of political change and competition for wealth and power in new, oil-producing states.
