Yale Professor to discuss voting process and election media coverage at USF Sarasota-Manatee
SARASOTA, FL (February 1, 2008) – On Feb. 8, just days after a historic Super Tuesday primary election, Yale Political Science Professor Gregory Huber will visit the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus to discuss his research on the impact of campaign advertising and campaign contact on election results.
With campaign election spending at an all-time high, Huber will discuss whether door-to-door visits, phone banks, and direct and e-mail campaigns actually help candidates win votes. His lecture is entitled “A Skeptic’s Guide to Election Media Coverage.”
Huber earned his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 2001 and is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Yale University. He is also a resident fellow of the Institution for Social and Policy Studies and the Center for Study of American politics.
The event is part of a year-long series entitled “Civility in Democracy: Election 2008,” which is presented by Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice, the Collins Center for Public Policy and the USF Sarasota-Manatee Institute for Public Policy and Leadership,.
The event is open to the public and free of charge and will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A reception will follow.
