Immigration problems and solutions to be discussed at open forum

SARASOTA, FL (November 27, 2007) – Immigration is a controversial issue, and with more immigrants arriving and working in Sarasota, Bradenton, and the surrounding areas, it is an issue that hits close to home for many people.

On Tuesday, December 4 at 3:45 p.m., USF Sarasota-Manatee’s Academy of Lifelong Learning will present “The Immigration Problem—Illegal and Legal: What are the Issues, What are the Facts, Is there a Solution?”  Dr. Herbert Waltzer, professor Emeritus of political science at Miami University (Oxford, Ohio), will speak at the event as part of the John Seivers Moran Lecture Series.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the Selby Auditorium on the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus, located at 8350 N. Tamiami Trail across from the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport.

Dr. Waltzer has spent more than 40 years at Miami University, where he has served as department chair, dean of the graduate school, dean of research, and associate provost for Academic Affairs.  He has also been an election analyst for CBS News, a commentator on public affairs, a consultant on university leadership management and governance, and a uniformed Air Force public information officer. He is the author or coauthor of nine books and professional articles.

Before moving to Sarasota and joining the faculty of USF Sarasota-Manatee Academy for Lifelong Learning, Dr. Waltzer taught courses in the Institutes for Learning in Retirement at Miami University and the University of Cincinnati.

Refreshments will be served at the event at 3:15 p.m.  For more information or to reserve a seat, call 941-359-4296 or e-mail academy@sar.usf.edu.
