With new campus slated to open in three months, USF Sarasota-Manatee schedules two informational sessions for prospective Fall 2006 students

SARASOTA, FL (May 26, 2006) – People who start classes at USF Sarasota-Manatee this fall will have a chance to make history – as members of the first incoming class to start and finish their degrees at the college’s new campus.

For students of all ages who are interested in being part of that noteworthy group, USF Sarasota-Manatee will be holding two information sessions for prospective undergraduate students on June 6 and June 27 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The new USF Sarasota-Manatee campus will be a three-story, 100,000-square-foot facility with 24 classrooms. It also includes a 190-seat lecture/exhibition hall, seminar and video-conferencing rooms, computer labs, a childcare center, student gathering places, faculty and staff offices, a technology and learning center, dining facilities, and training facilities for the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management.

The new campus is located on US 41 across from the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, just north of USF Sarasota-Manatee’s current campus location – which has been shared with New College of Florida for 31 years.

The sessions, to be held in the Hamilton Classrooms on the current campus, will be an opportunity for prospective students to speak with academic advisors and financial aid representatives and have their questions about USF Sarasota-Manatee answered.

“This will be a great opportunity to meet with key staff members at USF Sarasota-Manatee who will help students make a seamless transition in pursuit of their educational goals,” said Hillary Bardwell,  recruitment coordinator.

Students looking to finish their bachelor’s degree in nursing, business, arts and sciences, undergraduate studies and education will be able to learn about the specific programs as well as information about prerequisites.  Financial Aid advisors will be on hand to discuss the financial options available to students and Admissions and Registration Coordinators will provide assistance with the application process.

The deadline to register for the Fall 2006 semester is July 31.

“This is your chance if you’ve thought about finishing your degree, pursuing another degree option or even a career change,” Bardwell said.  “It’s a great chance to connect with USF Sarasota-Manatee and the wide range of academic programs we offer right here in this region.”

Bardwell also mentioned that, in addition to the courses offered at the new campus location currently scheduled to open this Fall, there are also many additional USF courses offered in south Sarasota County. This fall will mark the third academic year in which USF Sarasota-Manatee has offered coursework toward bachelor’s degrees on the site of MCC Venice.

USF Sarasota-Manatee is an upper-level campus for those with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree interested in pursuing a baccalaureate or master’s degree, professional certification, or continuing education credit. The regional campus offers the prestige of a nationally ranked research university with the convenience of a hometown campus, including classes in south Sarasota County at Manatee Community College Venice.
