Mock trial at Sarasota/Manatee campus on October 29
Organized by local chapter American Inn of Court and Criminology Dept.
(Sarasota,
FL, October 18, 2002) -- A mock criminal trial will be held at the
University of South Florida Sarasota/Manatee campus on Tuesday, October
29, 2002, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the College Hall Music Room. The
event is free of charge and open to the public. Seating is limited.
The mock trial is being organized by
the Judge John M. Scheb American Inn of Court, which is the local chapter
of the American Inns of Court, and the Criminology Department of the
Sarasota/Manatee campus. American Inns of Court is a national legal association based in Alexandria, VA, which
is dedicated to promoting ethics, civility and professionalism through
mentoring and educational programs at the local level.
"It's important for aspiring legal
professionals to better their skills in the courtroom, and for citizens to
better understand the criminal justice system," says Dr. Mary Cuadrado,
Criminology faculty member at the Sarasota/Manatee campus. "The mock
trial allows for both."
The presentation involves role-playing
by judges, prosecutors and defense attorneys. Two juries will be
selected to deliberate the simulated trial of the State of Osage v. Gary Booth. A question and answer session will follow.

trial, contact Lynda Russell of the USF Sarasota/Manatee College of Arts
