William G. Selby and Marie Selby Foundation scholarship awards given to 37 USF Sarasota-Manatee students
SARASOTA, FL (July 27, 2006) – On March 7, 2006, the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee’s Selby Scholars attended a luncheon hosted by William G. Selby and Marie Selby Foundation at the University Club. The Selby Foundation awarded $45,000 in scholarship to 25 Selby Achievers and 12 Selby Future Educators this past academic year. The award recipients all live in Sarasota or Manatee county and are degree-seeking students on the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Many of the recipients are juggling the demands of families and jobs in addition to their coursework, and probably would not be able to attend college if not for the scholarship money. Majors include Finance, Business, Psychology and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences. “We are very proud of our students who received this honor,” said Dr. Laurey Stryker, campus CEO. “The Scholarship Program brings both special recognition and needed financial support to USF Sarasota-Manatee College of Education and non-traditional students who are high achievers.” University of South Florida Trustee Jan E. Smith, Selby Foundation President and CEO Debra M. Jacobs and USF Sarasota-Manatee campus CEO Laurey T. Stryker were present at the event. The purpose of the Foundation is to improve the quality of life to Sarasota County and its bordering counties. Because of the Selby’s interest in education, scholarships are given annually to students from the local area for undergraduate study. For more information on giving to USF, please contact Alexis Upham, director of campus advancement at (941) 359-4582. Scholarship information also is available on the USF Sarasota-Manatee Web financial aid site, www.sarasota.usf.edu.
