USF Sarasota/Manatee campus remembers Sept. 11 tragedies
In Remembrance and Affirming Community are the themes
(see photos
below)
(Sarasota, FL, September 11, 2002) -- At
8:40 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2002, the USF Sarasota/Manatee and
New College of Florida campus community gathered at the flagpole behind
the Jane Bancroft Cook Library for a flag ceremony to quietly remember the
tragic events that took place one year ago in New York City, Washington,
D.C., and Pennsylvania. Students, staff and faculty were asked
to interrupt their day to spend a few moments of reflection. Student
Government representatives created a pictorial display and a
place to write messages at the Westside Student Center.
From 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Westside
Student Center, students, faculty and staff also gathered for a "pot luck"
supper. In the breaking of the bread, the campus community affirmed the importance of building its own small
campus community.
