New
programs kick off summer semester
Master's in Educational Leadership and Graduate
Certificate in Non-profit Management have first classes
(Sarasota, FL, April 18, 2002) -
The
University of South Florida Sarasota/Manatee campus is kicking off its
summer semester with new and enhanced programs. The
summer semester also marks the beginning of the 2002/2003 academic
year. The 2001/2002 academic year produced a 10+% increase in
student enrollment.
Registration for summer courses
can be done now until May
11. Summer classes begin May 13. Go to www.sarasota.usf.edu/RecordsRegistration
for more details.
"Coming
off a healthy growth year, I expect the double digit rate to continue for
some time. Our plan is to double enrollment from the current annual
2,300 to 4,800 by 2006," says Campus CEO Dr. Laurey Stryker.
"Adding programs, enhancing existing ones, and raising awareness of
our offerings will put USF in a great position to address the underserved
higher education needs of the Sarasota/Manatee residents."
Master's
level programs starting in May include the M.Ed. in Educational Leadership
and the Graduate Certificate program in Non-profit Management. The Educational
Leadership degree is designed for Sarasota and Manatee public school
system teachers with significant experience who want to become
principals. Statistics show that approximately 700 principals will
be needed in the next three years in the Sarasota, Manatee, Hillsborough,
Pinellas and Polk County systems. Program graduates are eligible to
apply for principal certification. Two versions of the
Educational Leadership program are being offered. The cohort
version is lockstep in nature where students must take the courses
together; the cohort pace takes just 15 months to complete, and 33
students have been admitted. The other program version will be
offered in the fall for students who have professional and personal
circumstances requiring they take more time to complete the program.
See www.sarasota.usf.edu/AcademicAffairs
for more details.
The
Graduate Certificate program in Non-profit Management is being offered for
the first time in the Sarasota/Manatee area. Leaders in the
extensive non-profit sector of the community support the need to
offer formal management education to administrators who can commit to
completing a program in less than a year. The certificate is earned
after 18 credit hours are taken with a 3.0 grade point average achieved on
all work attempted. USF will conduct the first class for this
program on May 18 at the American Red Cross of Sarasota County offices on
Cattleman Road. See www.cas.usf.edu
for details.
The
University of South Florida Sarasota/Manatee Campus offers 25 degree
programs for students to complete at the undergraduate and graduate
levels. Currently serving
2,300 students annually, the campus is located at the Sarasota/Manatee
County line on 140 acres, touching the shoreline of Sarasota Bay and
adjacent to the Sarasota/Bradenton International Airport.
It is part of the University of South Florida, the second largest
university in Florida with more than 37,000 students, a Research I
institution, and one of the top 20 largest universities in the United
States.
