USF Week and 30 Anniversary Celebration Features First-Ever Concert on
the Bay USF Week is Oct. 30 to Nov. 7, starting with the concert behind College Hall along beautiful Sarasota Bay. It is traditionally an annual celebration of events and activities to invite the community to visit the campus. The festivities this year include a Game Watch party for the nationally-televised game between USF and the University of Alabama Birmingham on Nov. 3; a speaking engagement featuring National Public Radio Diplomatic Correspondent Victoria (Vicky) O'Hara, on Nov. 4; and a golf tournament at Rosedale Golf and Country Club Nov. 5. The 11 Annual Brunch on the Bay on Nov. 7 wraps up the week. Brunch on the Bay attracts 900 people and nets over $150,000 for an endowed USF scholarship fund to support local scholars. For more information, visit www.sarasota.usf.edu and click on USF Week. The announced USF Week schedule features the hottest band from the 70s - the same time USF Sarasota-Manatee was established in 1974-75 at its current location on U.S. 41 North across from the airport. “What better way to celebrate than with a band that made the song ‘Celebrate’ famous,” said Dr. Laurey Stryker, Campus CEO. “We are celebrating 30 years of service to this area and invite everyone to visit our beautiful campus.” The afternoon concert schedule on October 30 includes the Sarasota-based Stone Soup; Tampa-based Reggae favorite Democracy; and local bands. Tickets are available online at www.concertonthebay.com and by calling the Concert on the Bay ticket hotline, 941-346-0200. As the sun sets over Sarasota Bay, members of America’s “First Family” of entertainment - The Nelsons - twins Matthew and Gunnar Nelson will play. The Nelsons’ acoustic set will feature nearly a half-century of #1 hit songs and Hall-of-Fame father Rick Nelson’s hits Travelin’ Man; Lonesome Town; I’m Walkin’; and Fools Rush In, to the Nelson brothers’ own smash hits (Can’t Live Without Your) Love and Affection; After The Rain; More Than Ever; and Only Time Will Tell. Making their first-ever Sarasota appearance is the legendary Three Dog Night. From 1969-1974, nobody had more Top 10 hits, sold more records, or sold more concert tickets. During this period Three Dog Night was undoubtedly the most popular band in America with 21 consecutive Top 40 hits and 12 straight gold LPs. By late '75, they had sold nearly 50 million records. Classic hits like Joy To The World; Easy To Be Hard; Old Fashion Love Song; Mama Told Me (Not To Come); Shambala; Never Been To Spain; One; Celebrate and many more will be performed. USF Week October 30 - November 7 Saturday October 30 Children age 10 and under are free when accompanied by a paying adult.
