Leadership Council Announces 2004 Officers, Committe Chairs, and
Welcomes New Members (Sarasota, FL, April 26, 2004) – The USF Sarasota-Manatee Community Leadership Council 2004 held its quarterly meeting on April 26 in Sudakoff on the east campus. Chairman Byron Shinn, partner and president of the Bradenton accounting firm Shinn & Company and USF alumnus, welcomed new members and committee chairmen. Clyde Nixon, chairman of Sun Hydraulics, is council vice-chairman. Bob Turner, vice president of operations at the Bradenton Herald and USF alumnus, is chairman emeritus. Cliff Walters, an attorney at Blalock, Landers, Walters & Vogler is campus board liaison. USF Sarasota-Manatee Chief Executive Officer Dr. Laurey Stryker, is secretary. Eight new members joined the CLC this year: Ed Chiles, president and CEO of Chiles Group; Roger Dearing, superintendent of Manatee County Schools; Grace Dietrich, senior vice president of technology for Jackson Hewitt, Inc.; Rex Jensen, president of Lakewood Ranch; Diana Michel, president of Michel Sports Marketing and president of the Manatee/Sarasota Chapter of the USF Alumni Association; Jerry Neff, president of Gold Bank; Bob Richardson, president of Richardson Klieber Walter Realty; and Gene Witt, interim superintendent of Sarasota County Schools. Also attending were newly- appointed committee chairmen. Tim Clarke, CEO and chairman of Clarke Advertising and Public Relations, is Program Chairman. Jimmy Dean of Gulfshore Media, and Alex Chavez from JCB Insurance are co-chairs of Community Affairs. Roger Frazee of Financial Services Network, and former Sarasota County Commissioner Gene Matthews serve as Public Advocacy co-chairs. Diana Michel is Alumni Liaison. The CLC comprises 42 leaders from Sarasota and Manatee, including 15 USF Alumni. The group represents 15 different industries and sectors, and more than 25,000 employees. The CLC has four committees: Community Affairs, Executive, Program, and Public Advocacy. As a whole, they advise the USF Sarasota-Manatee Campus Board and management about programs and service priorities, and advocate these priorities to the community and elected officials. In addition to Stryker, ex-officio members of the CLC are USF Sarasota-Manatee Campus Associate Vice President and Dean Dr. Peter French, Campus Advancement Director Alexis Upham, and Director of University Relations David Voss.
