New USF Sarasota-Manatee Campus Board member appointed
SARASOTA, FL (June 25, 2007) – The University of South Florida Board of Trustees announced today that former chairman of the Florida Board of Regents and USF alum Elizabeth Lindsay has been appointed to serve on the USF Sarasota-Manatee Campus Board.
“I am very pleased with her appointment,” said University of South Florida Board of Trustees member and Sarasota businessman Bob Soran. “Liz is an extremely bright person who has been actively engaged in community and educational issues for years. She will be able to provide leadership, commitment, and devotion to USF Sarasota-Manatee. I know that she will make an excellent addition to the board.”
Lindsay also currently serves on the Board of Advisors of the University of South Florida College of Business Administration and the Florida House Board of Directors and the House Renovation & Construction Committee.
“USF Sarasota-Manatee is a wonderful asset to our local community,” said Lindsay. “I look forward to advancing the interests of this campus and the university.”
Lindsay joins Lynette Edwards, Charles Baumann, Jan Smith, and Chairman Cliff Walters on the USF Sarasota-Manatee Campus Board.
In 2001, the Florida State Legislature passed legislation requiring USF’s regional campuses to establish their own boards, be operated and maintained as separate organizational and budget entities of USF, and each campus’s state appropriations are to be separate line items in the annual state budget.
For the Sarasota-Manatee campus, the legislation specifically states that the Board of Trustees of the University of South Florida appoints the campus board members as recommended by the President of USF. Three of the board members must live in Manatee County and two in Sarasota County, and serve four-year staggered terms. Edwards, Smith and Walters live in Manatee County, and Baumann and Lindsay live in Sarasota County. Lindsay, Edwards, and Baumann are USF alumni.
The campus board members’ powers include: · Review and approval of the annual legislative budget for the campus; · Approve and submit an annual operating plan and budget to the USF Board of Trustees; and, · Entering into central support service contracts with the USF Board of Trustees for any services the Sarasota/Manatee campus cannot provide more economically. USF Sarasota-Manatee is an upper-level campus for those with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree interested in pursuing a baccalaureate or master’s degree, professional certification, or continuing education credit. The regional campus offers the prestige of a nationally ranked research university with the convenience of a hometown campus, including classes in south Sarasota County at Manatee Community College Venice.
