SARASOTA, FL, (June 20, 2005) – The rain may have brought the party inside, but nothing dampened the words of thanks from a grateful campus CEO, Dr. Laurey Stryker, as she spoke to a gathering of more than 50 members and supporters of the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee Crosley Campus Center Fundraising Committee gathered at the lovely bay front home of Liz Lindsay on June 2. USF President Judy Genshaft was among the special guests, and thanked the Sarasota and Manatee communities represented for their generosity and loyalty to the local campus. Committee Chairman C. John Clarke remarked how the overwhelming support for the campus expansion, which has raised more than $2.5 million since last December, demonstrated how much area business leaders and residents see the need for a quality higher education institution in our region. The monies raised qualify for 100-percent matching funds from the state through the Alec P. Courtelis grant, a one-time opportunity only available during new construction. The match brings the total to more than $5 million to provide funds for state-of-the-art technology and enhancements.

Mills President Lem Sharp and wife Johnna, Director of the USF School of Hotel and Restaurant Management Dr. Jay Schrock, newly appointed USF trustee and Sarasota-Manatee Campus Board Chair Jan Smith, Charlie Stryker, Dottie and Bob Turner, Development Officer Alexis Upham, and Campus Board Member Cliff Walters and wife Susie.
