NEALS GIVES $100,000 TOWARD USF
SARASOTA-MANATEE CAMPUS CROSLEY CENTER FOR STUDENT SERVICES CENTER
(Sarasota, FL, April 26, 2005) – Pat Neal, president of Neal Communities Inc., and his wife Charlene, have given $100,000 to the Crosley Campus Center Fundraising Initiative. The Pat and Charlene Neal Student Services Center will be named in honor of their generosity. All funds raised for Crosley Campus Center, opening fall 2006, are matched 100 percent under the Alec P. Courtelis Facilities Enhancement Challenge grant from the Florida Division of Colleges and Universities, bringing the Neal gift total value to $200,000. Since December 2004, more than 40 businesses, foundations, faculty, staff, alumni, and other individuals have come forward with over $2.1 million in private gifts and grants for the Initiative. The Courtelis match raises the current total funds for enhancement of the new facility to more than $4.2 million. The USF Foundation, a direct support organization of the university, manages endowed gifts and provides ongoing funds through investment earnings. “We have four USF graduates at Neal Communities, and the local campus provides a convenient source for skilled employees as well as a place for current employees to upgrade their skills,” said Pat Neal. “Businesses seeking to relocate to our community look for an educated workforce, and families moving here see it as a valuable resource.” Pat Neal is a former Florida senator and representative and served as chairman on numerous committees while in office, including the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senate Natural Resources Committee and the Florida Commission on Ethics. He has received many professional and civic awards, including twenty-eight Aurora Awards from the Southeast Builders Conference, and Sierra Club and Florida Audubon Society legislative awards. Through his leadership, Neal Communities Inc., a residential building and land development company, has built more than 5,900 homes, home sites and condominiums since 1970 in Manatee, Sarasota and Pinellas counties. He and his wife, Charlene Lovingood Neal, live in Bradenton and support numerous charitable organizations. The Crosley Campus Center will be a 100,000-square-foot facility with 24 classrooms; a 190-seat lecture/exhibition hall; seminar and video-conferencing rooms; computer labs; a daycare center; student gathering places; faculty and staff offices; a technology and learning center; dining facilities; and training facilities for the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management. Once completed, the Center will offer some 800 courses annually in 37 academic programs. USF Sarasota-Manatee is an upper-level campus for those with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree interested in pursuing a baccalaureate or master’s degree, professional certification, or continuing education credit. The campus offers the prestige of a national Research 1 university with the convenience of a hometown campus, including classes in south Sarasota County at Manatee Community College Venice. |
