USF SARASOTA-MANATEE ANNOUNCES NEW
FULL-TIME RESIDENT AND VISITING FACULTY, AND FACULTY PROMOTIONS
Drs. Sharon Miller Keller, G. Pat Wilson, Marion Rilling and Susan Sheffield joined the College of Education. Keller, an assistant professor in elementary education in the Childhood Education Department, received her doctorate in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis on early childhood, women and gender studies from the University of Toledo. Wilson, assistant professor in reading education, teaches courses relevant to reading and writing instruction, and earned her doctorate through the University of New Hampshire. Rilling, former dean of the College of Education and the Graduate School at Glassboro State College/Rowan University in New Jersey, is an instructor to undergraduate and graduate students preparing for teaching careers. Dr. Sheffield joined the College of Education as a visiting instructor in Special Education. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts English from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, and a master’s in Varying Exceptionalities and a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from USF in Tampa. The Psychology Department has two new full-time resident faculty. Dr. Christine Ruva, assistant professor of psychology, received her doctorate from USF in Tampa with emphasis on cognitive and neural sciences. She has impressive background in psychology as it applies to law, including studies pertaining to jurors. Dr. Martin Lynch, assistant professor of psychology, comes to USF Sarasota-Manatee from the University of Rochester in New York. At Rochester, he earned his doctorate from the department of Clinical and Social Sciences, with special emphasis in human motivation and emotion. Dr. Maria Cabán-García, a licensed Certified Public Accountant, was named an assistant professor of accounting. She has degrees in accounting and economics, and earned her doctorate in accounting from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Several faculty and staff received promotions this year. Dr. Janice Fauske was promoted to full professor in educational leadership. Dr. Stephen Rushton was named associate professor in the department of elementary childhood education. At our Venice location, Susan Freeman was appointed director of the USF Sarasota-Manatee South Program and Ross Alander was named assistant director. Freeman comes to the new position from Student Services and Alander is a business course instructor in addition to his assistant director duties. “USF Sarasota-Manatee provides the educational quality and prestige of a Research I university with the benefits and appeal of a hometown campus,” said Campus CEO Dr. Laurey Stryker. “Our faculty members are top notch, and are an asset to our campus and the community. Their expertise helps us align our programs with community needs, providing the teachers, accountants, nurses, business and community leaders that support our regional economy.”
