USF Sarasota-Manatee opens registration period for non-degree seeking students

SARASOTA, FL (August 10, 2007) – People interested in continuing their college education will have the opportunity to enroll and “test the waters” by taking college courses during the Fall 2007 semester at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee.

Non-degree registration runs from August 20 through August 31, with classes starting August 27.  The non-degree program gives options to students who want to try just a few courses before committing to a full academic degree program – or who just want to take a few classes related to their own special interests.  Non-degree coursework can help students enhance their job performance, advance career options, and update job skills.

Non-degree seeking students can choose from a wide array of classes in Business, Education, Information Technology, Hospitality, Psychology, Women’s Studies, Social Work and many more. USF Sarasota-Manatee also offers coursework for non-degree seeking students in south Sarasota County at Manatee Community College Venice.

Graduate coursework that non-degree seeking students can take include Library and Information Science, Geographic Information Systems, Public Administration, Education (Reading, Educational Leadership, Adult Education – for trainers and organizational development specialists, Special Education, and Teacher Certification).

Coursework that students take may have a local interest as well. Geographic Information Systems introduces students to an emerging field involved in such areas as monitoring manatees to crime scene investigation to land development – all hot topics in Sarasota and Manatee counties.

Students who decide to continue toward a degree at USF Sarasota-Manatee have the opportunity to transfer up to 12 graduate and 14 undergraduate credit hours of their non-degree coursework -- depending on the requirements of the selected degree program.

For a list of courses offered for non-degree seekers, please call 359-4330 or visit http://www.sarasota.usf.edu; click Prospective Students; and then Non-degree Registration.

USF Sarasota-Manatee is an upper-level campus for those with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree interested in pursuing a baccalaureate or master’s degree, professional certification, or continuing education credit. The regional campus offers the prestige of a nationally ranked research university with the convenience of a hometown campus, including classes in south Sarasota County at Manatee Community College Venice.
