  USF SARASOTA-MANATEE Senior Academy Presents
'An Evening with Sherlock Holmes'

(Sarasota, FL, April 19, 2005) -- On the 122nd anniversary of the battle at Reichenbach Falls, the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee Senior Academy presents “An Evening with Sherlock Holmes,” an illustrated lecture by Dr. Arthur Liebman, teacher of mystery and detective fiction at New York University and author of the prize-winning book, The Biographical Sherlock Holmes.

The program at Sudakoff Auditorium on Wednesday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m. is free and open to Senior Academy members and their guests. Interested members of the public may call 359-4296 for an invitation.

It was on May 4, 1893 that Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty, locked in a life-and-death struggle, plunged over the precipice of the Reichenbach Falls into immortality in author Arthur Conan Doyle’s effort to end the Holmes saga. Fortunately, his reading public forced him to bring the great detective back for more adventures.

Dr. Liebman will offer an evening of photos, wit and music. Rare slides showing the world of Holmes, Dr. Watson, Moriarty and Doyle will b e accompanied by silent movie music performed by Joyce Ann Liebman, featured pianist of the Connoisseur Chamber Orchestra.

Dr. Liebman’s appearance is a John Sievers Moran Distinguished Lectureship Series event of the USF Sarasota-Manatee Senior Academy.
