Office of Student Affairs

USF Sarasota-Manatee

MISSION STATEMENT

Student Affairs is a place -- in time, in mind, and in spirit -- that works to ensure each student's tenure with the University of south Florida Sarasota-Manatee contributes to that student's growth as a whole person. Student Affairs works as a liaison between the student and every other department of the University, to provide ready and reliable information and assistance. Student Affairs works to ensure that the lessons and skills learned by the student will be applicable in that student's life now and when the student is in the working world.

Student Affairs acknowledges the commitment made by the student to his or her pursuit of a degree program, and Student Affairs also acknowledges that for many students this commitment is a "family affair," involving spouses, significant others, parents, friends, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and children. Additionally, Student Affairs acknowledges that students are involved in, and responsible for, much more than their course work as they pursue their degrees. To that end Student Affairs works to provide advocacy, information and assistance with any phase of campus life.

Student Affairs is committed to maintaining hospitable educational and working environments, that allow the students to pursue their goals, while providing opportunities for personal, social and intellectual development. Diversity of culture, views, practices, and experiences is crucial to the educational environment. Diversity enhances the intellectual lives of the University Community and allows us to serve the needs of the our individual and greater communities.

Student Affairs is committed to Freedoms of Speech, Expression, and Academia. Respect of these rights demands tolerance of these rights. As members of the University Community we must protect the rights of each individual to study, learn and educate themselves and others, while not being subjected to harassment that interferes with the learning and educational environment. All members of the community have the right not to be discriminated against on the basis of age, racial identity, ethnicity, national origin, ancestry, religious affiliation, creed, marital status, sexual orientation, disability, or veteran status

Student Affairs works to provide the necessary co-curricular instruction and experiences to ensure that each student receives a three dimensional education and is grounded in healthy and viable leadership principles and practices.
