FTCE: General Knowledge Test Prep Course

The Florida Teacher Certification Examination (FTCE) General Knowledge Test (GKT) is required for admission into most USF College of Education programs and for those who want to earn Florida Teacher Certification.

The GKT is designed to assess basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics and is composed of four subtests:

  • Essay Writing

  • English language skills

  • Mathematics

  • Reading

All portions of the GKT may be taken on computer at a computer-based testing site here in Sarasota.

FTCE: GKT test dates and registration information

The College of Education offers Plato, a web-based test preparation program that is designed to help teacher candidates improve their scores on the General Knowledge Test.  Each test prep student will take a pre-test to diagnose his or her test strengths and weaknesses. The student will then receive prescribed activities to help improve test scores.  Prospective USF College of Education students may access this practice tool FREE of charge.

This practice test is for current or future USF Sarasota-Manatee students only.
