FACULTY ASSOCIATION    
 
 

Preamble: The USF Sarasota/Manatee Regional Campus Faculty Association (herein after "The Association") serves the interests of the faculty of instruction to insure that the academic programs reflect commitments stated in the campus Mission Statement and faculty are supported in the implementation of their professional commitments to teaching and research that meet the expectations of a Category I Research University .

Membership: The voting membership of the Association shall be open to tenured or tenure-earning faculty, librarians and full-time instructors on continuing instructional appointments at USF Sarasota-Manatee. The CEO of the USF Sarasota/Manatee Regional Campus and the Dean for Academic Affairs shall be ex officio members of the Association.

Organization: The Association shall meet as a Committee of the Whole for purposes of organization and discussion. It shall appoint such committees are deemed necessary to address matters that arise among the members. Committees shall be either standing or ad hoc as determined by the membership.

Officers: During spring semester the membership shall elect a Chair and a Vice-Chair from different colleges among the membership. The membership shall also elect a representative to the USF Faculty Senate who shall serve as the liaison for the Association to the Faculty-Senate. The Office of the of the Associate Vice President and Dean for Academic Affairs shall designate a member of the administrative staff to serve as Recording Secretary at meetings of the Association.

Meetings: The Association shall establish the number of meetings to be held during the course of the academic year but shall be required to meet at least once during both the fall and spring semesters. Additional meetings other than those agreed to in advance by the membership may be convened upon petition of eight members of the body. During spring semester, the membership shall elect a group of three faculty plus the Chair, Vice-Chair and USF faculty senate liaison who may convene to address issues that shall arise during the May-August period. This group should include membership from each of the Colleges on campus. This group may convene special meetings. Any action occurring at such summer meetings shall be ratified at the first fall meeting of the subsequent academic year.

Advisory Responsibilities: The Association shall serve in an advisory capacity to the Administration on issues related to the academic program, academic support services, and student support services bearing on the quality of the academic programs and having an impact on the ability of the student to be provided a supportive learning environment. Specifically, the Association shall:

  • Tenure and Promotion Issues: Providing advice and counsel to the Dean for Academic Affairs on all candidates for promotion or tenure being considered by their respective Colleges of the University
     

  • Academic Budget: Providing advice and counsel on the preparation of the academic budget for the succeeding academic year
     

  • Technology Support: Providing advice and counsel on the changing needs of the academic community and making recommendations on the technology needs that will most effectively support academic programs or research.
     

  • SACS Compliance and Program Improvement: Collaborate with the academic administration on meeting all the established criteria for SACS compliance and insuring that electronic archives for the respective colleges are maintained on a routine basis.
     

  • Library and Academic Resources: Provide advice on the library resources and library operations.
     

  • Facilities Needs: Provide advice and counsel on the facilities needs of the campus.

Budget: The USF Sarasota/Manatee Regional Campus administration shall be provided an operating budget from E&G funds for the administrative needs of the Association.
