Honors Project (IDH 4950)
- IDH 4950 (2 credits) combines individualized instruction with small-group discussion.
- The two Honors Project sections are divided by disciplines; each leads students through a shared course of deeper study in the topics raised by the previous seminar and helps students explore the existing literature in their chosen research focus. Embedded in this study is further training in research methods and scholarly style conventions appropriate to the discipline.
- IDH 4950 is offered in Summer C session, and it is necessary for honors students to follow the spring seminar with the summer project course. Since much of this course is directed readings and individualized assignments, it is designed as a blended-online course (51%-75% online).
- The professors of the honors project provide feedback on written work that communicates the need to perform on an advanced level, suggesting both directions of exploration to deepen inquiry, and readings to increase familiarity with existing scholarship.
- In addition to other assignments, the culminating project of this course is a thesis proposal, which includes a survey of relevant scholarship.
- Each project course professor becomes the thesis advisor for those students in his/her project course.
