Financial Literacy Forum - USF Sarasota-Manatee

CFO Alex Sink will be declaring the month of April "Financial Literacy Month", and in support of that announcement, a Financial Literacy Forum will be held on the campus of USF Sarasota-Manatee.  The program is being offered by AARP, the Suncoast Workforce Board and USF/IPPL.

IPPL Lecture, Are Newspapers Obsolete: The Changing Nature of the Media
Robert B. Semple, Jr. is Associate Editor of the New York Times editorial page. He received a Pulitzer Prize in 1996 for his editorials on environmental issues. He joined the Washington Bureau of the Times in the fall of 1963. He covered housing and civil rights during the Johnson administration, spent a year covering President Johnson himself, and served as White House correspondent during Richard Nixon's first term. He served thereafter as deputy national editor (1973-75), London bureau chief (1975-77), foreign editor (1977-82), editor of the Op-Ed Page (1982-88) and associate editor of the Editorial Page (1988 to present). IPPL Lecture, Florida's Changing Demographics: You'll Be Surprised!

Susan A. MacManus is the Distinguished University Professor of Public Administration and Political Science in the Department of Government and International Affairs at the University of South Florida. She is a widely published scholar and sought after political commentator. MacManus is nationally renowned for her commentary on public opinion and intergenerational politics and has appeared on ABC, NBC, FOX, CNN, the BBC, NHK (Tokyo), Australian television, C-SPAN, National Public Radio, and in various print media. Her books include Young v. Old: Generational Combat in the 21st Century, Targeting Senior Voters, and Citrus, Sawmills, Critters, and Crackers: Early Life in Lutz and Central Pasco County. MacManus received her master's degree from the University of Michigan (1969) and her undergraduate (1968) and Ph.D. (1975) degrees from Florida State University. Born in Tampa, she's a native of Pasco County and the daughter of a citrus-raising family. View the video

Dr. Barylski is an Associate Professor for the International Studies Department in the College of Arts and Sciences.  He is an expert on civil-military relations in Russia, political and economic reconstruction in the former Soviet Union, and Russian policy towards states and peoples of Islamic heritage.
