Overview:

The University of South Florida, Sarasota-Manatee (USF S-M) is an upper-division, regional campus that provides junior, senior, and graduate course work leading to baccalaureate and master's  degrees along with certificate programs. The campus serves more than 3,500 students annually with 42 academic programs.

The new USF Sarasota-Manatee Campus is located on U.S. 41 (Tamiami Trail) about a half-mile north of University Parkway on the border of Sarasota and Manatee Counties near Sarasota Bay, the Crosley Mansion, the John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art, and Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport. The 100,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art academic facility houses 24 classrooms, a 190-seat lecture/exhibition hall, seminar and video-conferencing rooms, computer labs, student gathering places, faculty and staff offices, a technology and learning center, dining facilities, and training facilities for the School of Hotel & Restaurant Management. Courses are also offered at additional locations throughout the region, including the South County site in Venice.

USF Sarasota-Manatee brings the resources of the ninth largest university in the country to Sarasota and Manatee counties. USF, located in the thriving Tampa Bay area, includes campuses in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota-Manatee, and Lakeland with nearly 54,000 total students enrolled annually. USF received a nationally-ranked, Research I designation in 1999. USF is one of Florida's top three research universities.

Additional specialized and professional accreditation in teacher education, educational leadership, business administration, engineering, nursing, rehabilitation & mental health, social work, public administration, public health, and other professions.
History: The University of South Florida, founded in 1956 in Tampa, established limited course offerings in 1974 at two public high schools in the Sarasota-Manatee area to serve local residents, with particular attention to community college graduates and school teachers. In 1975 USF Sarasota-Manatee and New College, a residential liberal arts program, began sharing the current campus location. As of fall 2006 USF Sarasota-Manatee has its own campus just north of New College on State Highway 41 (Tamiami Trail).

Scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study are available from USF and federal, state, and local sources. The campus financial aid office located in C133 (Student Services Office off the Rotunda) provides detailed information and assists students personally with the application process.

Transfer
Minimum transfer requirements into the junior year include:

  • an associate of arts degree (A.A.) from a Florida public community college

     OR

  • or an associate of science degree (A.S.) from a Florida public community college to enter the A.S to B.A.S. program

       OR

  • a minimum of 60 transferable semester hours from a regionally-accredited institution in the United States with at least a 2.0 grade-point average.

NOTE: For admission, some USF programs and colleges require additional course work and/or grades above and beyond the minimum transfer requirements.

The 66 core faculty members have a Ph.D. or terminal degree in their fields. USF Sarasota-Manatee professors are also members of one of the USF System's Colleges/Schools based in Tampa. Some faculty members from USF's Tampa and St. Petersburg campuses supplement the core faculty. Adjunct faculty are carefully selected for their expertise as practicing professionals in the region.
