STRATEGIC GOAL 3: Niche Programming & Program Growth
Promote distinctive undergraduate, graduate and research programs along with centers of excellence that serve the emerging higher education needs of the growing region.
This will require a response to the four main drivers of the local economy, which are education, healthcare, tourism and real estate development. There are explicit and defined needs to develop a 21st century workforce for the region. The next five years will involve continuing review of existing programs to ensure they are meeting current needs as well as the selective development of programs linked to apparent niches in the region and building centers of excellence in selected programs. Planning sessions with the local community as well as discussion with campus personnel strongly recommended that a specific component in entrepreneurial studies be a feature of the niche marketing program development. There is also a need to acknowledge location in a coastal area as well as other factors that provide a special advantage to the campus including a rapidly growing population and demographic trends in the southern part of Sarasota County and eastern Manatee County.
