After 15 years of Joyce Birthday Conferences at the University of Miami, USF at Sarasota/Manatee will honor the impressive Miami tradition by continuing the conference.

Sarasota's inaugural James Joyce Birthday Conference: JJ on the Bay, will be held from January 31 through February 2, 2002, at USF at Sarasota/Manatee, located on beautiful Sarasota Bay.

Tentative schedule:

Thursday, January 31
Welcoming reception and registration in the Charles Ringling mansion (now College Hall) at sunset on Sarasota Bay.

Friday, February 1
A full day of panels at two sites on the campus, followed by a 120th birthday eve bash hosted by Friends of the Selby Library in the heart of downtown Sarasota. Just a few steps away are several Sarasota options: pubs and restaurants, as well as a sampling of Sarasota cultural attractions, such as the opera, theatres, musical performances, and clubs.

Saturday, February 2
A second day of panels, followed by a wine and cheese reception at sunset at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, then a banquet on the Bay at Marina Jack's Restaurant.
